Full-time Library Associate, Grade VI
Adult & Young Adult Services Department, Fiction

The Adult & Young Adult Services Department is seeking a full-time Library Associate (37.5 hours/week) with a special area of focus on fiction materials.

This is a “non-exempt” position with a work schedule that includes daytime, evening, and weekend hours. Current wage range begins at $17.04 per hour, and there are employee benefits associated with this position (including IMRF pension plan, paid leave and health insurance), per the current Personnel Policy.

We are seeking an energetic, self-motivated and flexible individual who enjoys working with the public and is enthusiastic about fiction. Oak Lawn Public Library is committed to building a fiction collection that represents diverse viewpoints and the right candidate for this position will demonstrate a commitment to that vision. Duties include: Providing basic reference and readers’ advisory services, recommending materials for purchase, participating in organization of library collections, conducting inventory process and overseeing fiction weeding process, assisting with departmental programming, participating in professional and continuing education activities, various forms of content creation, and other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree or LTA Certificate. Fundamental knowledge of MS Office is required. A reading background in fiction, including a variety of different genres, is essential. Knowledge of readers’ advisory or bookselling is desirable. Three years library experience, knowledge of library automation, and familiarity with learning new library technologies is desirable. Must have a good concept of customer service. Must have the ability to meet and work with people of diverse backgrounds easily and to communicate effectively both orally, in writing, and online. Must have the ability to manage time effectively.
